Benefits of Massage Therapy...
There's no denying the effects of massage. Regardless of the adjectives we assign to it (pampering, rejuvenating, therapeutic, renewing) or the reasons we seek it (a luxurious treat, stress relief, pain management, regular body maintenance), massage therapy can be a powerful ally in your healthcare regimen.
Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. While eliminating anxiety and pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be idealistic, massage can, without a doubt, help manage stress. This translates into:
Decreased anxiety
Enhanced sleep quality
Greater energy
Improved concentration
Increased circulation
Reduced fatigue
Furthermore, clients often report a sense of perspective and clarity after receiving a massage. The emotional balance bodywork provides can often be just as vital and valuable as the more tangible physical benefits.
Profound Effects
In response to massage, specific physiological and chemical changes cascade throughout the body, with profound effects. A few examples of the research shows that with massage:
Arthritis sufferers note fewer aches and less stiffness and pain
Asthmatic children show better pulmonary function and increased peak air flow
Burn injury patients report reduced pain, itching, and anxiety
High blood pressure patients demonstrate lower diastolic blood pressure, anxiety, and stress hormones
Premenstrual syndrome sufferers have decreased water retention and cramping
Preterm infants have improved weight gain
Research continues to show the enormous benefits of touch—which range from treating chronic diseases, neurological disorders, and injuries, to alleviating the tensions of modern lifestyles. Consequently, the medical community is actively embracing bodywork, and massage is becoming an integral part of hospice care and neonatal intensive care units. Many hospitals are also incorporating on-site massage practitioners and even spas to treat post surgery or pain patients as part of the recovery process.
Increase the Benefits with Frequent Visits
Getting a massage can do you a world of good. And getting massage frequently can do even more. This is the beauty of bodywork. Taking part in this form of regularly scheduled self-care can play a huge part in how healthy you'll be and how youthful you'll remain with each passing year. Budgeting time and money for bodywork at consistent intervals is truly an investment in your health. And remember: just because massage feels like a pampering treat doesn't mean it is any less therapeutic. Consider massage appointments a necessary piece of your health and wellness plan, and work with your practitioner to establish a treatment schedule that best meets your needs.
We hope to see you soon in in Palm Bay, Florida!!

Swedish Massage
Known as a “classic massage” in many countries, the Swedish massage is the best known and most widely practiced type of massage therapy. There are a variety of techniques used in Swedish massage including circular pressure applied by the hands and palms, firm kneading, light tapping, and more.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.
Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain in order to reach the sub-layer of muscles and the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles).
Deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation, and the following conditions:
Chronic pain
Lower back pain
Limited mobility
Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury)
Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
Postural problems
Muscle tension in the hamstrings, glutes, IT band, legs, quadriceps, rhomboids, upper back
Ostearthritis pain
Sciatica
Piriformis syndrome
Tennis elbow
Fibromyalgia
Muscle tension or spasm
After a workout or bodybuilding
According to Consumer Reports magazine, 34,000 people ranked deep tissue massage more effective in relieving osteoarthritis pain than physical therapy, exercise, prescription medications, chiropractic, acupuncture, diet, glucosamine and over-the-counter drugs.
Deep tissue massage also received a top ranking for fibromyalgia pain. People often notice improved range of motion immediately after a deep tissue massage!
Reflexology
It may be a treat for your feet but reflexology has whole-body benefits. Dating back as early as 2,500 BC, this deeply relaxing pressure point massage is based on the premise that each organ in the body corresponds to a specific point on the foot. Using specific thumb and finger pressure techniques causes physiological changes to take place in the body. The body's own healing potential is stimulated, with all energy flows restored to their natural pathways
Neuromuscular Therapy (Trigger Point)
The body is a matrix of intertwined muscles, joints and tendons. Trigger point therapy taps into the body’s internal web of muscles and tissues to unlock common chronic and injury-related pains caused by tension and stress.
Doing continuous movement can irritate tissue, which over time can lead to the development of trigger points - you know, those weird knots or cricks that just show up out of no where in your neck, shoulders and back that can show up with either a sharp, intense spasms or a dull aches? Either way, they're not fun! In Ultimately, when tissues remain in a contracted state for long periods of time they can harden and create little nodules that massage therapists can pulsate and feel for during a trigger point massage.
Trigger point therapy helps reduce pain, relieve tension and promote a better range of motion. It’s a great tool for many to unlock an area, but it’s also great to increase circulation and help muscles regain full function.
Many people have the misconception that clients who get trigger point massage need to endure high levels of pain and be sore for days following the massage in order for it to be beneficial. In reality, though, the purpose of trigger point therapy is not to provide more pain, but to rather help reduce pain and heal injuries.
For the most effective and enjoyable trigger point massage therapy session, some massage therapists like to mix in Swedish and deep tissue massage techniques, so clients can enjoy the relaxation of the massage experience coupled with some of the rehabilitative benefits that trigger point can provide.
So, what are you waiting for? Take a few minutes for yourself and book your Aqua Hands Trigger Point Massage today!
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
MLD is used to gently and rhythmically move the lymphatic fluids through the body, especially in areas experiencing edema ( swelling) thus relieving pressure and enhancing our body's healing mechanism. As both a preventative and remedial technique, MLD can be used for a wide range of purposes including a faster recovery from injury or surgery. It is very effective in helping with breast cancer surgery recovery, and many other surgeries, too. Many suffering from lymphedema have found relief from seeking Lymph Drainage Therapies.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone Massage is a form of massage therapy that follows the same principles of Swedish Massage with the addition of heated stones, which helps lead to deep relaxation. Adding heat to specific areas on the body enhances the feelings of relaxation and peace. They are made up of a type of volcanic rock that retains heat called basalt and are heated to about 140 degrees. Hot stone massage is recommended in particular for individuals suffering from fibromyalgia, arthritis or other chronic pain. The penetrating effects of the heated stones allows the for the licensed massage therapist to apply deeper pressure without causing discomfort.
Himalayan Salt Stone Massage
Himalayan Salt Stone Massage uses warm salt crystal stones to soothe away stress and tension, and promote an increased sense of well-being. Its grounding properties help to improve sleep and balance the Central Nervous System. Himalayan Salt Stone Massage supports Electromagnetic Overload from electronic devices. Additionally, the stone’s natural salt properties gently exfoliate the skin to promote naturally smooth and silky skin, reducing signs of aging.
Pre-Natal Massage
A prenatal massage is much like a regular massage, but the therapist will be careful to avoid putting pressure on certain areas and will use unique positions to keep the mother comfortable and safe. For example, rather than spending the entire session lying face-down, you will be on your side or in a semi-reclined position. This avoids putting pressure on your abdomen and disrupting blood flow.
During a prenatal massage, the therapist will avoid using deep pressure on your abdomen and legs. Gentle pressure may be used, but deep pressure on your legs can cause problems if you have blood clots.
Note: Due to safety risks, the client must be past the first trimester to receive massage, and must provide a doctor's note.
Assisted Stretching Session
No matter your age or level of activity, stretching is important for everybody. Whether you’re doing pilates or reaching for something in your cupboard, you want your body to work the way it should. My goal is to help you move with freely with ease, without pain or discomfort.
There are 700 muscles in our bodies that are continuously working to move our bodies. Muscles take different sizes and shapes and arrange around joints in complex ways. Even simple movements can engage up to nineteen different muscles!
Assisted stretching uses a technique called proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) which helps to reprogram your neuromuscular signals that move your muscles.
The result is that you are able to safely extend your muscles further before your body yells, ‘Stop! ‘.
By having someone else stretch you, I can safely place your body in various positions and leverage your body to move in different ways than you would ever be able to do on your own.
Assisted stretching allows your muscles to be more mobile and decrease your risk of injury!
Benefits include:
• Potentially reduce the risk of injury, especially sprains and strains
• Can reduce joint and spinal pain
• Encourage body awareness
• Enhance physical fitness
• Reduce muscle tension
• Foster physical and mental relaxation
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a specific type of therapy that incorporates the use of scented essential oils into a massage. The massage involves alternating between gentle and harder pressure while using a specific blend of essential oils. The essential oils are diluted before use and are applied along with lotion during the massage. Not only is the client's body benefiting with the direct contact with the essential oils, but the oils are alleged to have specific healing properties upon inhaling after exposure and can be added to a diffuser.
Aroma therapeutic massage not only has the client leaving with a full body massage, but they also are known to provide emotional healing and relaxation. The benefits are on a long list that also include a few of the same benefits of any other massage.
Below are a few of the general benefits of a massage that incorporates aromatherapy:
Stress reducing
Anxiety reliever
Increased calmness and relaxation
Decrease in muscle tension
Pain relief
A reduction of symptoms of depression
Ease of pain from various conditions listed below:
Fibromyalgia
Chronic lower back pain
Myofascial pain syndrome
Arthritis
Insomnia relief
Temporomandibular joint dysfunction
Peripheral neuropathy
Polymyalgia rheumatica
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder
Premenstrual syndrome
Rheumatoid arthritis
Sports Massage
Therapeutic sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance and aid in quick recovery. Many elite athletes consider sports massage an essential part of their training and recovery routine. They rely on it to help them train more effectively, improve performance, prevent injury and speed their recovery after strenuous exertion.
All that being said, you don’t have to be a professional athlete to get a therapeutic sports massage! It’s ideal for anyone who’s physically active – as well as someone who’s just starting out with a new workout program at the gym, running their first 10K or marathon, or doing anything else that’s outside their normal activity routine. If you’re a novice athlete, a pre-event sports massage can make a better, less-painful event for you. Or, if you’re a “weekend warrior”, a regular therapeutic sports massage may be just what you need to concentrate on a specific problem (sports or otherwise), chronic pain or a restricted range of motion.
Whether you’re a serious or an occasional athlete, enjoying less muscle pain and stiffness as well as improving your sense of well-being is good reason to take advantage of a regular therapeutic sports massage.
To get the most benefit from a therapeutic sports massage, be sure and ask your therapist about their training and techniques to learn what is right for you. And, no matter what type of massage you choose, the therapist should always check in with you about your needs and expectations during the massage.
Cupping
Cupping Therapy is a traditional, time-honored practice that utilizes the techniques of negative pressure rather than tissue compression. Suction cups are used to help relieve aching muscles, release joint stiffness, reduce inflammation, and provides relief for many acute and chronic conditions.
During this service, the therapist will position a suction cup over treatment areas to produce a vacuum effect that helps improve blood flow, thus allowing a deep relaxation to move throughout the body.
Heat Pack Massage
This can be used in conjunction with other alternative therapies. The Heat Pack massage is a variation of our traditional relaxing Hot stone massage.
In this massage, a mixture of oils, Swedish massage techniques and the application of heat come together for a blissful experience that may provide all the benefits of a deep tissue massage, but without the potential soreness. It’s a win-win.
Instead of using hot stones, we use these instant reusable heat packs for a more in-depth form of heat-based massage therapy.
There are many benefits to using the heat packs as opposed to the stones themselves:
1. Staying at a constant temperature: When using stones, they are initially heated and then placed on you. The heat is absorbed by your body, and the stones cool. With heat packs, this isn’t an issue as they maintain a constant temperature for around 15 minutes.
2. Heat packs don’t run the risk of getting too hot.
3. Less prep time for your massage therapist: Hot stones take about 30 minutes to fully heat up, while heat packs are instant. This means less wait time for you.
In your Heat Pack Massage, we first massage oils into your skin using Swedish massage techniques. The relaxing effect of these strokes makes it easier for the body to absorb the heat from the heat packs, which are applied next. Within 5 seconds of being activated, they quickly heat up to around 110-120 degrees. The heat packs are then incorporated into the strokes of the massage, causing tight or sore muscles to relax and providing deep relief.
Craniosacral Therapy (CST)
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on treatment that may provide relief from a variety of symptoms including headaches, neck pain and side effects of cancer treatment among many others.
CST uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of fluids in and around the central nervous system. Relieving tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity.
The focus of CST is a gentle placement of hands to assist release of the body’s connective tissue, or “fascia.” Fascia (Latin word for “band”) is a covering found throughout the body including organs, glands, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, brain and spinal cord. This covering forms a body-wide connective network. CST is based on the idea that the body is interrelated at all levels.
CST is thought to improve efficiency of biological processes through boosting inherent self-regulation, self-correction and self-healing. The therapy can be used successfully with children and adults.
What conditions may craniosacral therapy (CST) help?
Chronic pain.
Fibromyalgia.
Migraine headache.
Complex regional pain syndrome.
Fascial adhesions.
Multiple sclerosis.
Neuralgia.
Neurodegenerative diseases.
Temporo-mandibular joint syndrome.
Stroke.
Post-concussion syndrome.
Speech impairment.
Epilepsy.
What can I expect from a craniosacral therapy (CST) session?
A CST session is similar to massage therapy, except you stay fully clothed.
The treatment session begins with a consultation with your trained therapist to identify troubled areas. Soft music and low lighting are often used to increase your state of relaxation.
The therapist uses gentle pressure techniques to assess the existence of possible disruptions and/or restrictions in your fascial system. Light touch and fascial release may help your muscles and organs naturally relieve stress, which improves function. Other patients often report feeling a sense of deep relaxation.
Is craniosacral therapy right for everyone?
CST can benefit almost everyone. With a few conditions, however, craniosacral therapy may not be appropriate and you’ll need to talk with your CST practitioner and physician.
Your session needs to wait if you have experienced any of the following and have NOT been released for treatment by your physician:
Recent concussion.
Cerebral swelling.
Structural defects in the cerebellum such as Arnold-Chiari malformation.
Brain aneurysm.
Traumatic brain injury.
Blood clots.
Any disorder that causes instability of cerebral fluid pressure, flow or build-up.
Accupressure
The benefits and results of Acupressure are very similar to Acupuncture as they are both traditional Chinese medicine arts thar focus on balancing Chi energy--the circulating life force in the body--by stimulating its healthy flow along energy pathways in the body. Instead of needles, I use finger and elbow pressure on the same points/pathways that are stimulated with needles during Acupuncture.
During the session, there is elongation of the muscle fibers which contributes to the release of toxins and waste materials within the tissues, and an increase in the circulation of oxygenated blood promoting cellular nutrition and stronger resistance to disease. Afterwards, the body will become rebalanced, which prompts a reduction in emotional and psychological tensions. There is also a stronger sense of body awareness.
Acupressure is used to relieve pain, increase blood circulation, remove toxins from the tissues, and treat many conditions including muscular aches, sinus congestion, headaches, menstrual difficulties, and discomforts of pregnancy and labor. .Benefits include overall well-being, helps faster healing, relieves pain, increases your libido & stamina, tones facial muscles, releases muscular tension, promotes the proper circulation of blood, reduces the need for OTC drugs, and more!

It may not be a high-contact sport, but there are still plenty of injuries a golfer can sustain, and massage can be an excellent technique for assisting both the healing and prevention of these issues. Massage can also be a wonderful way to increase flexibility, which can help golfers with their form.
WHAT KIND OF INJURIES CAN A GOLFER SUSTAIN?
Golf is one of the most popular sports globally, with up to 35 million people participating around the world. While injuring oneself while playing golf isn’t something that is necessarily heard of very often, you’d be surprised at how much of a toll golf can take on a body.
For starters, the repetitive, one-sided nature of a golf swing means it’s common to see muscular injuries in the lower back, hips, shoulder and elbow. Being one-sided also often means the other side of the body compensates for the pain, and often, golfers find their whole bodies become sore.
Golfers also experience a lot of soreness around the head and neck, as well as in between the shoulder blades. This is usually caused as the body tightens for the swing. Also during the swing, the lower back can be affected by the twisting motion. The swing puts a lot of pressure on the body, requiring rotation and compression.
Because a lot of the toll is taken by the upper body, core and back strength are paramount.
Finally, there’s the dreaded golfer’s elbow, generally caused by an overworked arm and tense arm muscles. Golfer’s elbow occurs on the inside of the arm and can be debilitating if not treated quickly and regularly.
BENEFITS OF MASSAGE THERAPY FOR GOLFERS
There are a range of benefits that massage therapy can have for golfers.
Massage generally increases circulation. For golfers, this helps remove the metabolic waste that accumulates in the muscles, because of the repetitive nature of the golf swing.

Improves range of motion and muscle flexibility
Decreases anxiety and stress
Improves mental focus and enhances body awareness
